Q:
Do periodontal and implant procedures hurt?
A:
Dr. Lim uses the most advanced pain management procedures available. In most cases, a local anasthetic is enough to block any discomfort a patient might have. If you're especially nervous or anxious, you may request an oral sedative. In more advanced surgical cases, an anasthesiologist will administer a sleep sedative and monitor the patient throughout the procedure.
Q:
How fast after treatment can I expect to recover?
A:
This all depends on the complexity of the procedure. In most cases, you will be able to return to a normal routine within 24 to 48 hours without any discomfort. You will be completely informed in all aspects of your case including the procedure and recovery times before treatment. And, again, depending on the complexity of your treatment, it may take as long as six months after treatment is complete for a total restoration.
Q:
Do you accept insurance?
A:
Yes. We accept and process most insurances as a courtesy to our patients. We will work with you to maximize the benefits due you.
Q:
What do you charge?
A:
Fees depend on the procedure(s) we perform. Our fees are highly competitive with area periodontists.
Q:
Will I go back to my regular dentist once you've completed your procedures?
A:
Absolutely. We may require a few follow-up visits to insure your good health and recovery, but your regular dentist will, in most cases, complete your dental restoration and care.
Q:
Do I need a referral from a general dentist to consult with you?
A:
No, but it is usual and customary to have been seen and referred by your regular dentist before being seen in this office. You may take this simple test (link to self test here) to see if you have periodontal issues that we can address.
Q:
Is Dr. Lim Board Certified?
A:
Yes, Dr. Lim is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology, www.perio.org, and a Diplomate and Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (add link here). Both certifications require years of specialty study and training. Less than 20% of practicing periodontists are Board Certified.
Q:
Are implants better than a bridge or partial denture?
A:
Yes, implants are superior in many ways. Implants, a procedure that replaces your natural tooth with an implanted metal alloy post and a ceramic crown, preserve both the bone structure of the jaw and the functional use of the dontal and soft tissue around the implant. Most implants should also last a lifetime whereas bridges and dentures usually only last from seven to 10 years.
